DraftKings has announced that it has obtained all necessary prerequisites to launch in the Missouri sports betting market, including the official go-ahead from the Missouri Gaming Commission in the form of a license.
DraftKings wins important victory in Missouri ahead of sports betting launch
The news was immediately welcomed by DraftKings North America President Matt Kalish, who was pleased to see his company obtain one of only two available mobile licenses, granting the company a strong competitive foothold locally.
"We’re pleased to secure one of two direct mobile licenses in Missouri — paving the way for us to bring DraftKings," Kalish said.
"Missouri is home to several professional teams and deeply passionate fanbases, and we look forward to enhancing their sports experience with a dynamic and responsible mobile platform," Kalish added.
Missouri is on its way to becoming the 29th state in the country where DraftKings has set up shop, on top of operations in Ontario, Canada, and Washington, DC, USA. The license is an important win for the company, as it falls in the group of "untethered licenses."
This means that DraftKings would not have to set up a land-based shop with an established local property or franchise if it doesn’t want to and is free to operate its remote betting platform as a purely digital option.
Missouri is set to launch on December 1, 2025, but the details of that are still being thrashed out, as regulatory delay could push back the rollout date as well.
