One of the bidders for a New York casino license confirmed its intention to develop a designated resource center that would deal with gambling-related issues.
On Monday, The Soloviev Group and Mohegan, two leading companies behind the proposed entertainment and gaming venue, Freedom Plaza, announced they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the New York Council on Problem Gambling (NYCPG).
New resource center will provide vital support to people affected by gambling
Per the recently signed MOU, the companies agreed to develop a dedicated Problem Gambling Resource Center (PGRC) located on the premises of Freedom Plaza.
The collaboration reaffirms the organizations' commitment to promoting responsible gambling and delivering vital support to people affected by gambling-related issues.
Notably, the new PGRC at Freedom Plaza is going to offer interactive kiosks, where visitors would be able to access education videos on responsible gambling.
At the same time, a space will offer daily coffee service which seeks to create a more welcoming environment to the visitors who may seek support or a break from gambling.
Under the terms of the MOU, The Soloviev Group will collaborate with the NYCPG for the design and construction of the PGRC.
The duo will also consult regarding an initial and annual budget of the Resource Center and also establish jointly a Problem Gambling Committee that will regularly meet to "evaluate and enhance service delivery and outreach efforts," as explained in a statement by The Soloviev Group.
The PGRC represents a critical step in delivering safe entertainment
Michelle Hadden, NYCPG's Executive Director, shared her excitement by saying that the Council is delighted to join forces with The Soloviev Group for this new, forward-thinking initiative.
"Together, we're creating a safe and supportive space within the gaming environment that emphasizes prevention, awareness, and recovery," she said.
Ray Pineault, Mohegan's CEO, shared the positive vibe and said: "At Mohegan, we believe that creating a world-class gaming experience must go hand in hand with a deep commitment to responsible play."
He added that the new initiative for the development of the PGRC at Freedom Plaza is a testament to the company's dedication to supporting team members and guests who may be affected by gambling and would be able to access support and resources.
"This initiative is a critical step in fostering a safe, informed, and community-minded gaming environment for all," Pineault said in conclusion.
Michael Hershman, The Soloviev Group's CEO, added: "This partnership reflects our commitment to building a venue that prioritizes the health and well-being of our guests. By working together with the NYCPG, we're establishing a gold standard for responsible gaming in New York."
The new PGRC will offer services and support free of charge.
Visitors would be able to access the center via multilingual services, addressing the needs of diverse communities in New York.
The PGRC at the upcoming Freedom Plaza is modeled after the successful PlaySmart Centers at Mohegan's Niagara, which were developed in collaboration with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
