Hard Rock Bet rolls out slots-like sports betting product in Florida

Hard Rock Bet continues to pry away market share in Florida’s betting and gaming market, with the seminal brand announcing a brand-new product inspired by historical racing and designed to emulate the feel and look of online slots.

Hard Rock Bet shifts into higher gaming gear with "slots"

The new product, succinctly described as "Games powered by Past Motor Races," is a skillful navigation of local gambling laws, with the Seminole Tribe-owned online sportsbook finding innovative ways to deliver a new product to its players.

The new product is essentially actual past NASCAR races that can be wagered on in a slots-like fashion. The operator said this in an official statement:

"The outcomes of those wagers are shown to the player using entertaining video depictions. For each wager, a player selects the finishing order of the drivers in each of the three past motor races."

Hard Rock Bet can introduce this product owing to a state contract it negotiated with Florida in 2021, and namely because of a rule that the state compact allows players to wager on any past or future professional sport or athletic event, as per the official definition.

Hard Rock Bet’s twist to steer the betting contest to a more slot-like form follows consumer demand for iGaming at a time when online casinos in the state are still prohibited and alternatives such as sweepstakes social casinos are slowly being turfed out or, in the very least, face an uncertain future. California, for example, has already banned sweepstakes.

Inspired by historical horse racing, Hard Rock’s new product goes a step further

There are some differences in how historical racing works in Hard Rock Bet’s case. Modeled after historical horse racing, the product offered by the tribal operator does not involve pari-mutuel betting but is instead played against the house (the same way slots are).

This is a clever way for Hard Rock Bet to tap into and capitalize on the surging demand for more slot-like games.

With no such options on the horizon and legislators unlikely to change things up any time soon, Hard Rock Bet has skillfully leveraged its existing compact, tailoring it to the particular preferences of bettors and gamblers in the Sunshine State.
